Our Vision
Through collaborative efforts and unwavering commitment, we aim to create a supportive
environment where every Delta stroke survivor can thrive and rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience.

Our Mission
Our mission is to provide comprehensive resources, education, and compassionate support to empower stroke survivors and their families on their journey to recovery.
Our Purpose
We provide post-rehab services for individuals
and families navigating the challenges of stroke recovery.
Through a combination of educational programs and therapeutic services, we partner with our members after rehab to support their journey back to independence, so they may thrive more fully in their lives and communities.

Our Values

Our Founder
Meet Karel
In 1995, Karel found herself navigating a complex and challenging journey after her husband experienced a catastrophic stroke. With few local resources available nearby, she had to travel with her husband to Richmond every week; a routine that highlighted a gap in Delta-based support.
One day, Karel decided to take a heartfelt step to bridge the gap. She placed an ad in the Delta Optimist, inviting local stroke survivors and caregivers to come together. This simple act of reaching out sparked the first meeting of what would become Delta Stroke Recovery Society.
Today, our society stands as a testament to the power of community support. What began as a small coffee club has blossomed into a thriving federally registered non-profit, offering a affordable evidence-based programs designed to support stroke survivors and their families on their after-rehab journeys.

Our New Logo
March 2026
We’re excited to share the story of our new logo with you. It represents who Delta Stroke Recovery is today as a society, and so much more.
You may remember our old logo. It was a great blue heron lifting off for flight. It represented us well for many years with its inspiring message. Over time though, our work has grown beyond South Delta, where herons make their home. We wanted a logo that better reflected who we are today, the people we serve, and all of Delta.
Each part of our new logo was chosen with care by our members. It includes:
-
An Aphasia friendly font.
-
A circular shape, which stands for wholeness.
-
The shades of blue represent the sea and skies of Delta. Blue also stands for integrity, dignity, depth, and strength.
-
A stylized superhero taking flight. This forward-looking image really resonated with our members. It stands for hope, confidence, resiliency, and courage.
Our logo is new, but after 30+ years of community service, our mission isn't changing. We’re still here to:
-
Support Delta’s stroke survivors, caregivers, family and friends.
-
Provide science-backed stroke recovery programs.
-
Help build a stronger Delta.
Our Partner
Sometimes we're mistaken for Heart & Stroke or we're called by that name. But DSRS is a home-grown Delta, BC non-profit. We aren't affiliated with Heart & Stroke and do not receive funding from them.
We do have a great provincial partner, though: Stroke Recovery BC.
We work together to offer programs in North Delta, and we can refer you to many of SRBC's fantastic local and province-wide program options.
